The old Wegscheidschmiede in Bolzano, also known as the “Alte Schmiede”, has a long and fascinating history that dates back to the Middle Ages. This historic craft building was an important center for blacksmithing in the region for centuries.

The Wegscheidschmiede experienced its heyday during the Renaissance. The craftsmanship of blacksmiths was highly valued, and they produced finely crafted ironmongery that was known far beyond the city's borders.
